HIGHLIGHT: Israel: A twice promised land The first of two programmes looking at Israel from the end of the Second World War to the UN vote on the Partition Plan (1/2).

TELEVISION: Sunday 1.15pm (BBC1) Songs of Praise Aled Jones discovers hidden-gem churches in London, and Laura Wright visits a church in Mayfair where daily meditations are broadcast to more than 100,000 people worldwide.

2.45pm (BBC2) A Matter of Life and Death The classic film about a pilot who survives a plane crash, but is told that he was meant to die, and must plead his case in heaven.

8pm (BBC1) Call the Midwife Sister Monica Joan takes on a stray dog (6/8).

RADIO: Sunday 8.10am (R4) Sunday Worship From Alive City Church, London, which was set up in 2019 by singer-songwriters Volney and Angel Morgan.

10.30am (World Service) Heart and Soul The story of Floyd Bledsoe, whose Christian forgiveness was tested when his brother accused him of murder.

3pm (R3) Choral Evensong A repeat of this week’s service from Pembroke College, Cambridge, to mark the 300th anniversary of the death of Christopher Wren. Recorded on 19 January.

Monday 4.30pm (R4) Beyond Belief Aleem Maqbool and guests discuss why, for many religious institutions, same-sex marriage is an intractable issue (5/7).

Wednesday 4pm (R3) Choral Even­­song Live from New College, Oxford, with music by Weelkes and Byrd to mark the 400th anniversary of their deaths.

8.45pm (R4) Four Thought The anthropologist and doctor Farrah Jarral explains why she believes we need to put care at the centre of our society.
