Bishop of Stafford welcomes NHS Trust decision

THE Bishop of Stafford, the Rt Revd Geoff Annas, said on Wednesday that he agreed with the decision by the Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, to dissolve the scandal-hit Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust. Bishop Annas said, however, that the Church stood with the people of Stafford in opposing any attempt to move maternity services to another hospital elsewhere.

Scottish Christians grapple with independence debate

THE Church of Scotland released a report on Wednesday about the independence referendum, the result of a 12-month consultation. The Church said that it was neutral on independence, but it urged its members to keep social justice at the centre of the debate. Separately, the group Christians For Independence was launched on Monday. Its convener, David Thompson MSP, said that he believed that a self-governing Scotland would build a more just society.
