Anglican Ordinands (in the UK, the ROI, or the diocese in Europe) and Readers-in-training (in the Church of England) are eligible for a free subscription to the Church Times. There are no strings attached and no obligation to subscribe once your course ends.
Those based in the UK can apply for a Print + Digital subscription. We will enrol all with UK addresses to our best-value subscription offer ensuring you see all that the Church Times offers every week. Included in this will be a weekly print newspaper, plus full access to our website, app, and archive. Also included is our free church wall planner (sent in December). Ordinands outside the UK can apply for a free Digital-only subscription.
We have made Church Times free of charge for all ordinands in the UK for many years. It costs us an estimated £59 000 per annum – but we feel that it is vital that student clergy and readers in training have access to independent, reliable, and trustworthy news reporting and analysis. In fact, the Church Times is a rarity in media terms: it is completely independent of the Church of England. We’re owned by a charitable trust – Hymns Ancient and Modern – and paid for entirely by our subscribers and advertisers. This matters as it gives us the freedom to report and comment without fear or favour.
We’d like student clergy to see and read this each week, as we scrutinise the Church’s leadership, but also highlight great ideas and unsung champions in parishes around the country. We also cover national and international topics of importance to Christians, with intelligent commentary and analysis. It’s not just news, of course. The Church Times includes insightful faith features, interviews, film, book, and art reviews, and publishes theological reflections, cartoons, crosswords, and much more. We hope you take out a free subscription and enjoy the Church Times for the duration of your studies.
After your ordination training has ended, you can also take out a one-year subscription to the Church Times for half the usual price.
We will send details of your subscription by email, along with occasional offers tailored to ordinands and readers-in-training. If you would also like to receive our weekday email bulletin, please check the box at the end of the form.
