Isle of Wight archdeacon
THE next Archdeacon of the Isle of Wight, in Portsmouth diocese, is to be the Ven. Barry Dugmore, Archdeacon Missioner in Coventry diocese, since 2019. He was ordained priest in 2002 and served his title in Portsmouth diocese. In 2007, he moved to Exeter diocese, where he served as Priest-in-Charge of St George’s and St Paul’s, Tiverton, Rural Dean of Tiverton and Cullompton, and Diocesan Mission Enabler.
Before his ordination, Archdeacon Dugmore worked in pharmaceutical and medical-device sales in Hampshire. He and his wife, Suzanne, were part of the worship band at St John’s, Locks Heath. He said: “The Isle of Wight’s distinct identity, strong local culture, and the diocese’s commitment to prioritising work with children, young people, and older people resonate deeply within my own ministry priorities.”
He will be licensed at evensong in Portsmouth Cathedral on 31 May.
