Reflections for Lent, Holy Week and Easter 2026; Draw Near; Not by Bread Alone; Stations of the Cross; Moments of Love; and Come Wind, Come Weather

CHURCH HOUSE PUBLISHING again offers a Common Worship-based resource: Reflections for Lent, Holy Week and Easter 2026: 18 February-11 April 2026 by Isabelle Hamley, Ben Quash, and Carlton Turner (£5.99 (£5.39); 978-1-78140-522-2).

This includes daily lectionary details for morning prayer; a reflection on one of the Bible readings; and the collect. There are also a simple form of morning prayer, a short form of night prayer, an introduction by Mark Oakley to Lent, and a guide by Rachel Treweek to building daily prayer into daily life.

From the same publisher is this year’s colourful C of E booklet for adults: Draw Near: Life-giving habits for Lent by Kate Bruce, Michael Leyden, and Jessica Martin (single copy, £2.99; 978-1-78140-547-5) and the child’s counterpart: Draw Near: A Lent challenge for families and children with 40 acts (£2.99; 978-1-78140-550-5). Both are also available in packs of ten and 50: adults, £25 (978-1-78140-548-2) and £115 (978-1-78140-549-9); and children £25 (978-1-78140-551-2) and £115 (978-1-78140-552-9).

Not by Bread Alone: Daily reflections for Lent is by Mark A. Villano, a Paulist Father in Los Angeles, who has a background as a university chaplain (Liturgical Press, £2.99 (£2.69); 979-8-4008-0155-6). It is also available in large print: £6.99 (£6.29); 979-8-4008-0156-3).

Stations of the Cross by Donald McChesney (SLG Press, £7.50 (£6.75); 978-0-7283-0505-2) was first published in 1971. In this new edition, the meditations come with Jean-Bernard Lalanne’s artworks shown at the Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Pitié, Seix, in France, in 2024.

John Mann, a former Dean of Belfast, who now lives on the Isle of Man, where he leads quiet days and retreats through the Island Spirituality Network, has written Moments of Love: An eight-day retreat with the Song of Songs (DLT, £9.99 (£9); 978-1-917362-009), a small hardback. The themes of the days are: Welcome, Acceptance, The Quest, Beauty, The Wound of Love, Seeing, The Invitation of Love, and Consummation.

Walkers may find inspiration in Lent or later in Come Wind, Come Weather: A pilgrim’s handbook for prayers and activities the length of Britain by Janet Lees (Wild Goose, £10.99 (£9.90); 978-1-80432-339-7).
