Alleluia at Southwark Cathedral for Church Times Festival of Faith and Music

03 July 2026

Full programme, speaker information, and tickets now available

THE Church Times is to hold its second Festival of Faith and Music, in partnership with the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM), in Southwark Cathedral on Saturday 10 October. It will be a one-day symposium on the theme “Alleluia: The power of music as mission”. The day is intended to celebrate church music in all its glory and to send participants home with new ideas to try out in their parishes.

The speakers include Iain Farrington, Peter Moger, Hugh Morris, Matthew Owens, Helen Smee, and Lucy Walker. Music will be provided by Southwark Cathedral Choir, the Diocese of Manchester Choral Scholars, and the choir of St Mary Magdalene’s, Wandsworth Common, in London.

The day begins with a festival eucharist at 9.30am, sung by the Cathedral Choir, and the first panel discussion (“Where words fail, music speaks”) starts at 11am. Hugh Morris will give an illustrated lecture (“All my hope on God is founded”) before a break for lunch, which delegates can bring or buy near by. After lunch, the Manchester Choral Scholars will offer practical inspiration (“Music as mission: Sing My Soul”) before a keynote speech by Peter Moger (“Deeper into the heart of God: music’s engagement with the divine”). After a tea break, the programme will end with festival evensong, sung by the choir of St Mary Magdalene’s.

This event is for clergy, music leaders, church musicians, and others with a general interest in sacred music. Discounted tickets are available to RSCM members and Church Times subscribers. For the full programme, speaker information, and tickets visit: faithandmusic.hymnsam.co.uk.
