THE Archbishop of Canterbury is to visit the Anglican Church of the Province of West Africa “to strengthen the ties between the See of Canterbury and the Province”.

Archbishop Mullally will visit Ghana and Cameroon from 26 July to 8 August. The invitation was issued by Dr Cyril Kobina Ben-Smith, the Bishop of Asante-Mampong and Primate of West Africa, who was among the 26 Primates to attend the Archbishop’s installation at Canterbury Cathedral (News, 27 March).

“The purpose of Archbishop Sarah’s visit to West Africa is to learn and listen, to strengthen the ties between the See of Canterbury and the Province, and to foster deeper ecumenical relationships,” a statement from Lambeth Palace read.

“The visit is part of Archbishop Sarah’s commitment to building relationships across the Anglican Communion, and sharing in the life, witness and mission of Anglicans around the world.”

Archbishop Mullally met ecumenical and regional delegations of Anglican Primates in Canterbury on Thursday and Friday of last week, and spent time “in fellowship, conversation, and prayer with many of the Primates who attended the Installation”, the statement said.

It was also announced last week that Archbishop Mullally will visit the Vatican at the end of April to meet Pope Leo. This follows the exchange letters between the two ahead of her installation (News, 27 March).
