Guernsey retirement
THE Very Revd Timothy Barker, Dean of Guernsey, in Salisbury diocese, is to retire on 31 July, before his 70th birthday in August. Dean Barker was ordained priest in 1981 and served his title in Chester diocese. He served in parishes, as Diocesan Urban Officer, Diocesan Communications Officer, and Bishop’s Chaplain, before moving to Spalding, in Lincoln diocese, in 1998. He was appointed Archdeacon of Lincoln in 2009, serving until he took up his current post, then in Winchester and Canterbury dioceses. He also serves as Rector of St André de la Pommeraye, Guernsey, and Priest-in-Charge of St Peter’s, Sark.
Dean Barker has hosted visits by members of the Royal Family, and marked Liberation Day in Guernsey and Homecoming in Alderney. He said that his ministry in churches had been “equally important” and “richly rewarding”.
