Winchester retirement

CANON Roland Riem, Interim Dean of Winchester since March 2025, is to retire at the end of July. He has served at the cathedral since 2005, as Canon Pastor, Missioner, Chancellor, and Vice-Dean, the post to which he will revert when Canon Chris Palmer is installed as Dean on 15 March (News, 12 December 2025).

Dr Riem trained for ordination at St John’s College, Nottingham, and was ordained priest in 1990. He served his title in Canterbury diocese. He has also been Senior Chaplain of Nottingham University, and Director of Ministry on the Southern Theological Education and Training Scheme (STETS).

His farewell service at the cathedral will be on Sunday 5 July. He and his wife, Sophie, will be moving to Salisbury.

JEJEY. The Revd Theodora Jejey, NS Assistant Curate of St Barnabas’s, Pimlico (London).

McGARRIGLE. The Revd John (Don) McGarrigle, Priest-in-Charge of Great Casterton and Tickencote and Little Casterton with Pickworth (Peterborough).

NEWBON. The Revd Michael Newbon, Vicar of Caverswall and Weston Coyney with Dilhorne (Lichfield).

PARKES. The Revd Patrick Parkes, Assistant Curate (Minister for Starcross) of Dawlish with Holcombe, Cofton and Starcross (Exeter), remaining Tutor of the South West Ministry Training Course.

PEILOW. The Very Revd Lynda Peilow, Church of Ireland Director of Ordinands, remaining Provost of Galway (Tuam, Limerick & Killaloe).

PENCAVEL. The Revd Ursula Pencavel, Assistant Curate (Associate Minister) of Bayston Hill (Lichfield).

PORTEUS. The Revd Norman Porteous, Rector of Derryloran, and Canon Precentor of Armagh Cathedral (Armagh).

RICHARDS. The Revd Joanna Richards, Area Dean of Canterbury, remaining Rector of St Dunstan with Holy Cross, St Mildred’s and St Peter with St Alphege, Canterbury, and Hon. Canon of Canterbury Cathedral (Canterbury).

SHAW. The Revd Michael Shaw, Assistant Curate (Associate Minister) of Shifnal, Sherrifhales and Tong (Lichfield).

STEVENSON. The Revd Nikki Stevenson, Assistant Curate (20s-40s Minister) of Ingleby Barwick (York), remaining Chaplain of HM Prison Kirklevington Grange.

STRINGER. The Revd Dr Adrian Stringer, Rector of Desertlyn and Ballyeglish (Armagh).

SVHIEL. The Revd David Svhiel, Rector of Christ Church, Kincardine O’Neil (Aberdeen & Orkney).

TARRY. The Revd Angela Tarry, Assistant Area Dean of Akeley East, remaining Chaplain of Loughborough University (Leicester).
