Winchester archdeacons

THE next Archdeacon of Winchester is to be the Revd Simon Butler, Associate Priest of North Hampshire Downs, in the diocese of Winchester. He trained at Ripon College, Cuddesdon, and served curacies at Bridgford (2006-10), in the diocese of Southwell & Nottingham, and then at Ashtead, in Guildford diocese (2006-10), before moving to the North Hampshire Downs Benefice as Rector. In 2025, his parish work was made part-time, as he also became clergy lead for the diocese’s Growing Rural Parishes Project (GRPP). He is also one half of the Butler & Butler clerical-shirts business. He will be licensed at the beginning of August and succeeds the Ven. Richard Brand, Archdeacon of Winchester since 2016, who has resigned to pursue a career in corporate coaching.

In addition, in the same diocese, the next Archdeacon of Bournemouth is to be the Revd Dr Gemma Foster, Rector of Cove and Area Dean of Aldershot, in the diocese of Guildford. Dr Foster trained at St Mellitus College and was ordained in 2015 to a title in Letchworth, in St Albans, before moving to her current parish in 2019, and was elected to the General Synod in 2021. She succeeds the Rt Revd Jean Burgess, the new Bishop of Grimsby, in the diocese of Lincoln (News, 10 December 2025), who was consecrated in February. Dr Foster will be licensed at the beginning of September.

 

BAILEY. The Revd Stephen Bailey, Area Dean of Gartree, to be Assistant Archdeacon, remaining Team Rector in the Oadby Great Glen Team Ministry (Leicester).

BARKER. The Revd William Barker, Assistant Curate (Associate Priest) of All Hallows Berkynchirche-by-the-Tower with St Dunstan-in-the-East, London (London), to be Chaplain of Holy Cross, Palermo, Italy (Europe).

BARRETT FORD. The Revd Carol Barrett Ford, Vicar of St John’s, Hampstead, and Area Dean of Camden (London), to be Chaplain of Grey Coat Hospital School (London).

BARRINGTON. The Revd Joanna Barrington, Assistant Curate in the Headingley and All Hallows’ Team Ministry, to be Assistant Curate of Roundhay (Leeds).

COX. The Revd Stephen Cox, NS Assistant Curate of Rudston, Boynton, Carnaby, Kilham, Burton Fleming with Fordon, Grindale and Wold Newton (York), to be Vicar.

DAWES. The Revd Elizabeth Dawes, Assistant Curate in the Great Yarmouth Team Ministry, to be Team Vicar in the Sprowston and North Norwich Team Ministry (Norwich).

DUNYS. The Revd Jean-Marc Dunys, NS Assistant Curate of Holy Trinity, West Hampstead (London), to be Assistant Curate of St Peter’s, Bentley (Sheffield).

FOX. The Revd Elizabeth Fox, NS Assistant Curate (Associate Priest) of St John the Baptist and St Andrew’s, Ipswich (St Edmundsbury & Ipswich), to be Priest-in-Charge of Fyfield, Moreton with Bobbingworth and Willingale with Shellow and Berners Roding (Chelmsford).

MIDGLEY-ADAM. The Revd Jennifer Midgley-Adam, Assistant Curate (Assistant Priest) of St Peter’s, Eaton Square, Pimlico, with Christ Church, Westminster, to be Preacher of the Charterhouse (London).

MILLER. The Revd Timothy Miller, Succentor of St Paul’s Cathedral, to be Sacrist (London).

WALDEN. The Revd Emma Walden, Assistant Curate of Stratford-Upon-Avon, Luddington and Clifford Chambers (Coventry), to be Succentor of St Paul’s Cathedral (London).

WARNER. The Rt Revd Dr Martin Warner, formerly Bishop of Chichester, to be Vicar of St Peter’s, Folkestone (Canterbury).

 

WALES

BALE. The Revd Susannah Bale, Dean of the Bro Glannau Tywyn Local Ministry Area, to be Priest-in-Charge of the Bro Dinefwr Local Ministry Area, remaining Canon of St Davids Cathedral (St Davids).

EDGE. The Revd Sharon Edge, NS Assistant Curate in the East Landsker Local Ministry Area and Anna Chaplain (St Davids), now Associate Priest.

LE BRUN POWELL. The Revd Edward Le Brun Powell, Vicar of St Mary Magdalen’s, Coventry, and Chaplain of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (Coventry), to be Priest-in-Charge and Dean of the Bro Caerfyrddin Local Ministry Area (St Davids).

LYNCH. The Revd Darren Lynch, formerly Assistant Curate in the Taff Rhymney Ministry Area (Llandaff), to be Vicar in the Islwyn Ministry Area (Monmouth).
