Southwark archdeacons

THE next Archdeacon of Wandsworth is to be the Revd Bridget Shepherd, Vicar of the Good Shepherd and St Peter’s, Lee, since 2014. She trained for ministry at Trinity College, Bristol, was ordained priest in 2009, and has served all her ministry in the diocese. She has been Assistant Area Dean and Area Dean of East Lewisham, and was Acting Archdeacon of Lewisham and Greenwich this year. She is married to Nick, a Reader in Southwark diocese, with whom she has two adult children. She succeeds the Ven. John Kiddle, who retires in June (Gazette, 15 November 2024).

The Revd Dr Geoffrey Dumbreck, Vicar of St Peter’s and St Augustine’s, South Croydon, since 2019, and Area Dean of Croydon Central since 2022, and the Revd Joyce Forbes, Assistant Curate of St Stephen’s, Norbury and Thornton Heath, since 2003, Area Dean of Croydon North since 2022, and an Hon. Canon of Southwark Cathedral since 2014, are now Acting Archdeacons of Croydon until 31 March.

AVERY. The Revd Andrew Avery, Vicar of Stanground and Farcet, and Rector of Fletton (Ely), to be Priest-in-Charge of Somerleyton, Ashby, Fritton, Herringfleet, Blundeston and Lound (Norwich).

BOTTLEY. The Revd Kate Bottley, NS Assistant Curate (Associate Priest) of St Saviour’s, Retford, now NS Assistant Curate (Associate Priest) of Ordsall and St Michael’s, Retford, remaining Hon. Canon of Southwell Cathedral (Southwell & Nottingham).

BURDETT. The Revd Rachel Burdett, Assistant Curate of Christ Church, Belper, with Turnditch, and of Hazelwood, Holbrook and Milford, to be Priest-in-Charge of Church, Belper, with Turnditch, of Hazelwood, Holbrook and Milford, and of Ambergate and Heage (Derby).

BUTLER. The Revd Simon Butler, Rector of the North Hampshire Downs Benefice (Winchester), now Associate Priest.

CARRUTHERS. The Revd John Carruthers, Vicar of St Paul’s, Newington, now also Area Dean of Southwark and Newington (Southwark).

ELSTON. The Revd Vanessa Elston, Chaplain to the Bishop of Kingston, to be Vicar of St Barnabas’s, Southfields (Southwark).

GODFREY. The Revd Josie Godfrey, Assistant Curate in the Bro Deiniol Ministry Area (Bangor), to be Assistant Curate of Holy Trinity with St Philip, Dalston, and All Saints’, Haggerston (London).

GRANT. The Revd Reginald Grant, NS Assistant Curate of St Mark’s, Reigate (Southwark), to be Associate Priest.

HAMID. The Rt Revd David Hamid, formerly Suffragan Bishop in Europe (Europe), now Hon. Assistant Bishop (Southwark).

HASSALL. The Revd Elizabeth Hassall, Priest-in-Charge of All Saints Pavement with St Crux and St Michael Spurriergate, of St Olave with St Giles, York, of St Helen Stonegate with St Martin Coney Street, York, and of St Denys, York, to be Rector of the same benefices, remaining Canon and Prebendary of York Minster (York).

HILL-BROWN. The Revd Duncan Hill-Brown, Vicar of Dorridge, and Hon. Canon of Birmingham Cathedral, now also Priest-in-Charge of Nuthurst cum Hockley Heath, in Packwood with Hockley Heath (Birmingham). 

JESSON. The Revd George Jesson, formerly Chaplain of HM Young Offenders’ Institution, Doncaster, to be Chaplain of HM Prison Preston.

KELLS. The Revd Dr Mary Kells, Chaplain of King’s College, Cambridge (Ely), to be Rector of St Martin’s and St Paul’s, Canterbury (Canterbury).

KOLLTVEIT. The Revd Emily Kolltveit, Priest-in-Charge of St Jude on the Hill, Hampstead Garden Suburb (London), to be Vicar.

LAU. The Revd Gemma Lau, Assistant Curate of St John the Evangelist, East Dulwich, to be Assistant Curate (Associate Priest) of St Barnabas’s, Dulwich, and Vicar of St Clement with St Peter, Dulwich, remaining Woolwich Area Director of Ordinands (Southwark).

MORLEY. The Revd Jonathan Morley, Assistant Curate of Aldridge (Lichfield), to be Vicar of Southwell (Southwell & Nottingham).

NORMAN. The Revd Peter Norman, NS Assistant Curate of Water Orton (Birmingham), now Assistant Curate.

OSBORN. The Revd Oliver Osborn, Assistant Curate of Holy Trinity, Exeter (Exeter), to be Vicar of St Patrick’s, Wallington (Southwark).

PENNER. The Revd Dr Myron Penner, Rector of St Paul’s, Edmonton (Anglican Church of Canada), to be Chaplain of St John the Evangelist, Gent, Belgium (Europe).

PETRIE. The Revd Jane Petrie, Team Vicar in the East Greenwich Team Ministry, now Priest-in-Charge of St Nicholas and St Luke, Deptford (Southwark).

PORTER. The Revd Damian Porter, Vicar of Torrisholme, to be also Priest-in-Charge of Christ Church, Carnforth (Blackburn).

PRIOR-TOWNSEND. The Revd Helen Prior-Townsend, NS Assistant Curate of St Margaret’s, Ipswich (St Edmundsbury & Ipswich), to be Assistant Curate.

SHERIFF. The Revd Suzanne Sheriff, Interim Priest-in-Charge of Fulford, to be Vicar, remaining Canon and Prebendary of York Minster (York).

TANSEY. The Revd Daniel Tansey, Priest-in-Charge of Snettisham (Norwich), now Rector.
