Sheffield archdeaconry

THE next Archdeacon of Sheffield and Rotherham is to be the Revd David Gerrard, Vicar of East Wakefield, in Leeds diocese, since 2018, Area Dean of Wakefield since 2019, and an Hon. Canon of Ripon Cathedral since 2023. He trained for ministry at Trinity College, Bristol, and was ordained priest in 2013. He served his title in Blackburn diocese, before taking up his first incumbencies in Leeds diocese in 2016.

In Wakefield, he founded the Every Good Work youth and social-action project. He is also the author of Creation to new Creation: Daily readings and reflections from Genesis for Lent, published in 2023.

He will be installed in the autumn, and succeeds the Rt Revd Malcolm Chamberlain, now Bishop of Wakefield (News, 21 March).

MATTHEWS. The Revd Anita Matthews, Priest-in-Charge of St Peter and Christ Church with Holy Trinity, Derby (Derby), to be Vicar.

MOSHER. The Revd James Mosher, Mission to Seafarers Chaplaincy Team Leader in Southampton, to be Vicar of St Mary’s, Harrow on the Hill, and Assistant Chaplain of Harrow School (London).

PERRY. The Revd Dr Michael Perry, Vicar of the Woodford Valley with Archers Gate Benefice, now also Assistant Rural Dean of Stonehenge (Salisbury).

POPPLETON. The Revd Julian Poppleton, NS Assistant Curate (Associate Priest) of Harnham, and Bishop’s Adviser for Associate Ministry (Salisbury), now Chaplain of Winchester Cathedral (Winchester).

RENGERT. The Revd Helen Rengert, formerly Team Rector in the Reepham and Wensum Valley Team Ministry, Chaplain of Reepham High School, and Assistant Diocesan Director of Ordinands (Norwich), to be Vicar of St John the Baptist and St Edmund’s, Felixstowe (St Edmundsbury & Ipswich).

ROUNDTREE. The Revd Clabern (Clay) Roundtree, Assistant Curate (Associate Rector) of Grantham and of South Grantham, to be Diocesan Director of Ordinands and Vocations (Lincoln).

SIMMONDS. The Revd Wayne Simmonds, Assistant Curate of St Benedict’s, Bordesley, St Cyprian’s, Hay Mill, Yardley, and South Yardley (Birmingham), to be part-time Diocesan Racial Justice Officer, and part-time Assistant Curate of St Peter’s, Huddersfield (Leeds).
