Bishops complete NY marathon challenge

THE Bishop of Indianapolis, the Rt Revd Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows, and the Bishop of Southern Ohio, the Rt Revd Kristin Uffelman White, completed their first New York marathon on 2 November, in a run-walk time of 8 hours and 46 minutes. “To me, the victory was getting to the start line healthy,” Bishop Baskerville-Burrows, who is 59, said. “The race was the victory lap.” The Bishops became colleagues, then friends, and then running partners when they served together in the diocese of Chicago.

WCC: Sanctity of human life must be protected

THE World Council of Churches (WCC) has expressed deep concern over the violence and deaths in Tanzania since the country’s presidential elections on 29 October. “Reports of widespread protests, excessive use of force by security agencies, and numerous civilian casualties are deeply distressing and call for urgent moral reflection and accountability,” the WCC said in a statement. “The exclusion of major opposition parties and candidates in the electoral process undermines the integrity of democracy and contradicts the principles of justice, fairness, and participation that are essential to good governance.”
