Camels at Hereford Cathedral to mark the Epiphany

09 January 2025

James Adedeji, Hereford Diocese

THREE camels and the magi recreated the journey to Bethlehem, on Sunday, at Hereford Cathedral, for the first of two outdoor services marking the feast of the Epiphany.

“By holding these services outdoors and welcoming everyone — regardless of faith or background — we are trying to help people understand Christ’s birth is for everyone,” the Bishop of Hereford, the Rt Revd Richard Jackson, said.

“The presence of the camels brings some fun and helps us imagine the long journey to Bethlehem guided by the star.” The three camels were part of Joseph’s Amazing Camels, a company based near Stratford, in Warwickshire.

“Today’s services are an invitation to all of us to seek and find Christ in our lives. The enthusiasm of our congregation and visitors, despite the challenging weather, made this a truly memorable celebration,” Bishop Jackson said.
