Bath archdeacon

THE next Archdeacon of Bath is to be the Revd Charles Peer, Head of Mission Support and Ministry Development in Bath & Wells diocese since 2021. He was ordained priest in 2003, served his title in Exeter diocese, and then took up an incumbency in Truro diocese. In 2012, he became Mission Development Officer for Portsmouth diocese, before joining Bath & Wells diocese as Head of the Diocesan Strategic Programme. He has also been Acting Archdeacon of Wells since last year.

Mr Peer succeeds the Ven. Dr Adrian Youings, who has served as Archdeacon since 2017, and takes up the post of Head of Supporter Relations of the Wales-based charity Care for the Family in July. Archdeacon Youings was ordained priest in 1996 and served his title in Guildford diocese. He held a second curacy in Southwark diocese, before moving to Bath & Wells diocese in 2003 as Rector of Trull with Angersleigh. He also served as Rural Dean of Taunton from 2015 to 2017.

 

Montgomery post

THE next Archdeacon of Montgomery, in St Asaph diocese is to be the Revd Gerwyn Capon, Rector of Thaxted, the Sampfords, Radwinter and Hempstead, in Chelmsford diocese, since 2023. Mr Capon was a chartered surveyor before training for ministry at St Stephen’s House, Oxford. He was ordained deacon in 2003 to a title post in Liverpool diocese. He has served in the Church of Wales as Chaplain to the Archbishop of Wales, Llandaff Diocesan Director of Ordinands, and Dean and Vicar of Llandaff. From 2009 to 2012, he was Priest-in-Charge of Bolton-le-Sands, in Blackburn diocese.

He will take up post on 1 September, following the retirement of the Ven. Dr Barry Wilson (Gazette, 23 February).

BISHOP. The Revd Christopher Bishop, Assistant Curate of Warmsworth, to be Priest-in-Charge of Hatfield, and Oversight Minister in the S2 Flowing Waters Mission Area (Sheffield).

BRINDLE. The Revd Dr Keith Brindle, Vicar of St James’s, Devizes, now also Hon. Canon of Salisbury Cathedral (Salisbury).

BRYSON. The Revd Philip Bryson, part-time Assistant Curate (Team Vicar) in the Market Harborough — Little Bowden with Lubenham and Great Bowden Team Ministry, with responsibility for St Dionysius’s, Market Harborough (Leicester), to be full-time Team Vicar.

FLEURY. The Revd Gemma Fleury, Assistant Curate of South and North Elmsall, to be Interim Priest-in-Charge of Gipton and Oakwood (Leeds).

GLENWRIGHT. The Revd Joanna Glenwright, Assistant Curate in the St Michael and All Angels, St Chad and All Hallows’ Team Ministry, Headingley, to be part-time Vicar of Menston with Woodhead, and part-time Assistant Diocesan Director of Ordinands and Vocations (Leeds).

GODFREY. The Revd Sarah Godfrey, Acting Team Rector in the Golden Cap Team Ministry, now also Hon. Canon of Salisbury Cathedral (Salisbury).

HENDRA. The Revd David Hendra, formerly Assistant Curate (Associate Priest) of the Mitre Benefice (Norwich), now Chaplain for Dementia Care in Southampton, for the charity Caraway.

HOLE. The Revd Amy Hole, Assistant Curate of the Vine Benefice, Sheffield, to be Vicar of Heeley with Arbourthorne and Norfolk Park (Sheffield).

KIRK. The Revd Dr Alastair Kirk, part-time Team Vicar in the Keighley Team Ministry (Leeds), to be full-time Interim Team Vicar.

NEARY. The Revd Joanna Neary, Team Vicar in the Beaminster Area Team Ministry, and Tutor in Rural Ministry and Mission, in the Centre for Formation in Ministry of Sarum College, now also Hon. Canon of Salisbury Cathedral (Salisbury).

PERCIVAL. The Revd Darren Percival, Vicar of Monk Bretton, and Priest-in-Charge of Cudworth, now also Area Dean of Barnsley (Leeds), remaining Hon. Canon of Luapula Cathedral (Church of the Province of Central Africa).

SIMPSON. The Revd Morna Simpson, Rector of Yardley Hastings, Denton and Grendon with Castle Ashby and Whiston, to be Vicar of Finedon, and Diocesan Curate-Training Programme Officer, and Assistant Vocations Officer (Peterborough).
