A team of conservators, curators, surveyors, and engineers are at work in the Chapel Royal at Hampton Court this summer to assess and restore the Baroque decoration from the time of Queen Anne. Artists involved in the reordering of the chapel, built in 1514, included the painters Thomas Highmore and Sir James Thornhill, the architects Nicholas Hawksmoor and William Dickinson, and the woodcarver Grinling Gibbons. This is the first time in 20 years that scaffolding has been erected to provide access to the upper walls and ceiling. The work has been organised by Historic Royal Palaces, an independent charity, with funding from the Syder Foundation and the Leche Trust
