The brass eagle from a Victorian lectern, which was stolen from St Augustine’s, Edgbaston, in Birmingham, last week. CCTV images showed a man entering the church and leaving with the eagle wrapped in a blanket. West Midlands Police is investigating. The church operations director of Ecclesiastical Insurance, Helen Richards, said that economic challenges in the UK had led to an increase in church thefts
