Devon retirement

THE Rt Revd Jacqueline Searle, the Suffragan Bishop of Crediton, in Exeter diocese, since 2018, is to retire at the beginning of next year. Bishop Searle, who is 63, was one of the first women to be ordained priest in 1994, having served as Parish Deacon of Roxeth, in London diocese, since 1992. She served her title at St Stephen’s, Castle Hill, Ealing, in west London, before becoming a Tutor and Dean of Women at Trinity College, Bristol, in 1996. In 2003, she returned to parish life, in Derby diocese, where she served as incumbent and rural dean, and was an Hon. Canon of Derby Cathedral. In 2012, she was appointed Archdeacon of Gloucester and Canon Residentiary of Gloucester Cathedral. She has served as Acting Bishop of Exeter since the retirement of the Rt Revd Robert Atwell in September last year. His successor, Dr Mike Harrison, the current Suffragan Bishop of Dunwich, in St Edmundsbury & Ipswich diocese, is to be enthroned on 2 November.
