A man sits near his damaged house on Sunday, after heavy rains caused flash-flooding in Baghlan province, in northern Afghanistan. More than 300 people have been killed by the floods in the past few days, in 18 districts across at least three provinces in the region. The UN World Food Programme reports that hundreds more people were displaced. It is believed that many remain buried in the mud. During his General Audience on Wednesday morning, the Pope said that he was praying for those affected. He appealed to the international community “to immediately provide the necessary aid and support to protect the most vulnerable”
