About 600,000 people — half of the population of East Timor — attend a mass at which Pope Francis presided in Tasitolu Park, in the capital, Dili, on Tuesday. Greeting bishops and clergy at a service earlier in the day, the Pope thanked missionaries who chose to live in the remote country. “Exactly because it is at the ends of the earth,” he said, “it is at the centre of the gospel!”
