Flames — but only son et lumière ones — light up the interior of York Minster again to mark the 40th anniversary of the fire that destroyed the south-transept roof. Telling the story of that night and its aftermath, the show, Phoenix, by the artists Ross Ashton and Karen Monid, commemorates the bravery, power, and ingenuity of those who responded to the fire, and celebrates the resilience of the Minster and the people of York, using their own words. Audiences see lightning strike the cathedral, lead pour from the roof, and the celebrated Rose Window crack, before the clean-up operation begins and expert restoration begins. The show runs until Saturday. yorkminster.org
