ANDREW SYMON is the author of Columba’s Travels: The seven sands of Iona (Wild Goose, £10.99 (£9.89); 978-1-80432-353-3). It is not a history book, but “some of the stories about St Columba’s journeys to and from Iona” for younger readers, beginning with a list of the characters and two maps to help them to follow these tales that “tell truths, not facts”. The monks face danger to take the gospel to people in thrall to druids and warlords.
