7.15pm (C4) The Queens that Changed the World A look at the power and influence of past queens, beginning with Eliza­beth I, who al­­lowed Roman Catholics to continue with their faith, discreetly (1/6).

Sunday 1.15pm (BBC1) Songs of Praise Sean Fletcher learns more about the history and monastic foundation of St Bartholomew’s churches and hos­pital, in London.

RADIO: Sunday 8.10am (R4) Sunday Worship Anna Magnusson examines the creativity and richness of the Edin­­burgh Festival, on its opening weekend.

2pm (R3) Choral Evensong A repeat of this week’s service sung by Gen­esis Sixteen, at St Alban’s, Hol­born, in London, and recorded on 13 July.

Tuesday 9.30am (World Service) Inside Afghanistan’s Secret Schools How some women are defying the Taliban to give girls an education in secret.

Wednesday 4pm (R3) Choral Even­­song From Eton College, sung by members of the Rodolfus Foundation Choral Course; recorded on 31 July.
