TELEVISION: Sunday 1.15pm (BBC1) Songs of Praise Ahead of Alcohol Awareness Week, Canon Kate Bottley visits Preston to learn about the temperance movement.

Wednesday 8pm (BBC4) Florence Nightingale: Nursing pioneer The life of the woman who revolutionised modern nursing.

 

RADIO: Friday 11.30am (World Service) Heart and Soul Nick Cave talks about grief, faith, and the spirituality of music with the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Sunday 8.10am (R4) Sunday Worship The Very Revd Dr David Bruce, a former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church’s General Assembly, preaches at a service from Sing! The Great Commission Conference, held in Belfast on 16 June.

1.30pm (R4 FM) The Archbishop Interviews Archbishop Welby’s guest is the actor Gabriel Byrne (5/6).

3pm (R3) Choral Evensong A repeat of this week’s service from St Peter’s Collegiate Church, Wolverhampton, on the Eve of St Peter the Apostle, recorded on 3 June.

Monday to Friday 12pm (R3) Composer of the Week: William Byrd (1540-1623) Donald Macleod explores the life and music of the composer (1-5/5).

Wednesday 4pm (R3) Choral Evensong Live from Lincoln Cathedral, to mark the 400th anniversary of the death of William Byrd.
