A PROJECT that will help churches and individuals to find out where prayer and mission events are taking place in their area is being trialled this summer.
The scheme, which will run for four months from July, links the existing OIKOS prayer app, designed by Hope for Every Home, with the Cinnamon Connect social-action learning community, and the resources and support group Hope Together.
OIKOS’s world map, to which users can pin prayers and post their thoughts, is being combined with Cinnamon Connect’s community mapping tool, through which users can post details of mission and local projects. Users can access the new resources through a free app using a single log-in.
The project has been designed for people and churches who are already praying for communities and are involved in social action, but who want more resources and support. The organisers hope that the new combination will help communities to plan future activities.
The director of Hope for Every Home, Sammy Jordan, said that the app “has the potential to help individuals and churches because it supports them on a journey through prayer and missional listening to joining in with what God is doing in their community.
“Having resources to hand and a supportive learning community helps people to be intentional and to follow through on what they set out to do . . . so that churches and individuals can ‘see’ where they want to be.”
The scheme will also include a feedback service, in which users can both see where they and others have been, and spot patterns about prayer and mission in their community.
A demonstration webinar, Prayer in Action, is being held from 10 a.m. on 29 June.
In a joint statement, the organisers said: “At a time when life is challenging for many people, this partnership seeks to help the Church respond holistically, in both words and actions. We are excited to see how these resources, when used together, will further the mission of the local church as it seeks to impact communities.”
