J. CHERYL EXUM, Emeritus Professor of Biblical Studies at the University of Exeter, has written Song of Songs: The Bible’s Only Love Poem: An introduction and study guide (T&T Clark, £17.99 (£16.20); 978-0-567-67471-5). The first four chapters deal with questions that are, or should be, routinely asked about the book and its historical-cultural context. The final chapter goes on to consider contemporary approaches, discussing works that include a number that are often technical and theoretical. The author believes that “current developments are where exciting new work is being done on the Song and students should be aware of it.”
