Recollections

The Revd Terry and Mrs June Challis write:

THE Revd David Evans was ordained priest in 1962 in Liverpool diocese and served two curacies there. After this time, he became an English and religious-studies teacher and librarian at Canon Slade School, Bolton. He served there for the rest of his stipendiary ministry, and was highly respected and loved by teachers and students alike.

During his retirement, he helped in many parishes in Manchester diocese and was a voluntary welcomer at Liverpool Cathedral. He was proficient in British Sign Language and regularly led services arranged by the Deaf Society in Bolton.

He was a generous and kind-hearted man, who was always ready to help others in time of need. At social events, David could converse eloquently on many subjects. He enjoyed sailing, latterly in Wales on Lake Bala, and was a great supporter of the RNLI. He is now missed by his family and many friends in Liverpool and Manchester dioceses. May he rest in peace.
