People gathered to pray on Monday outside the supermarket in Buffalo, New York State, where ten people where shot and killed and three others were injured on Saturday. The suspect, Payton S. Gendron, 18, of Conklin, New York, who is in custody, is pleading not guilty to charges of first-degree murder. He had referred online to “white genocide” and “white replacement”. President Biden said on Tuesday that white supremacy was “a poison running through our body politic”. The Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States, the Most Revd Michael Curry, said in a statement: “Bigotry-based violence — any bigotry at all against our siblings who are people of color, Jewish, Sikh, Asian, trans, or any other group — is fundamentally wrong”
