Canon Alan Haydock writes:

I VALUED and enjoyed reading the obituary of Colin Slater by Dr Christina Baxter (Gazette, 28 January). There was an error, however. In June 1984, the Southwell Diocesan Centenary Service was held on the Nottingham Forest Football Ground, not Trent Bridge Cricket Ground. There was a county cricket match taking place at Trent Bridge at the same time. Eddie Hemmings, the Nottinghamshire and England spin bowler, had returned to the side, after an absence due to injury. At precisely the moment that he took his first wicket, 9000 voices from across Radcliffe Road were heard to sing “Thine be the glory”.
