Relief services attend the area around First Presbyterian Church, Mayfield, Kentucky, on Sunday, after a succession of tornadoes ran a 200-mile trail through MidWestern and Southern US states, on Friday. By Tuesday, at least 74 fatalities had been reported; the figure was expected to rise. The Rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Bowling Green, in Kentucky, the Revd Steve Pankey, told ENS that the storm had cut its path a few blocks from his home. From his porch, he said, he saw that neighbours had lost roofs or sections of their homes, struck by winds estimated at 155 mph
