TELEVISION: Sunday 1.15pm (BBC1) Songs of Praise: Gospel Singer of the Year To mark the beginning of Lent, Sean Fletcher visits Ripon Cathedral, and hears from the Dean, the Very Revd John Dobson, on the ways in which the cathedral has inspired others through the centuries. Fletcher also reflects on the themes of love and Lent with the Bishop of Ripon, Dr Helen-Ann Hartley.

Monday 10.30pm, Tuesday 10pm, Wednesday 10.25pm (BBC4) Retreat: Meditations from a monastery A look at a typical day at three British monaster­ies: Downside, Pluscarden, and Belmont (1-3/3) (repeat)

RADIO: Sunday 8.10am (R4) Sunday Worship A service led by the Baptist minister the Revd Richard Littledale on the theme of St John’s definition of the words “This is love” (1 John 4.7-21).

11am (R4) Desert Island Discs Malala Yousafzai talks about her life and chooses eight favourite recordings.

3pm (R3) Choral Evensong A repeat of last week’s service from Clare College, Cambridge, recorded on 26 Novem­ber 2020.

Monday to Friday 1.45pm (R4) Life Chances The journalist Athar Ahmad revisits his old school, Acton High, in west London, and explores issues of multiculturalism and identity (1-5/5).

Wednesday 3.30pm (R3) Choral Evensong An archive recording for Ash Wednesday from St John’s College, Cambridge, first broadcast on 6 March 2019.
