THE first recipients of the Guild of Church Musicians’ (GCM) Archbishops’ Chorister Medal were 12 choristers of Arundel RC Cathedral. The new examination, designed for singers up to the age of 18, aims to develop practical performance skills and to encourage attentive listening and reflection on the part music plays in worship. The choristers were presented with their certificates by the Guild’s President, Dame Mary Archer, in Arundel Cathedral, on 1 February.
The president also presented Honorary Membership of the Guild to David Wells, an organ builder, founder member, and later board member of the Institute of British Organ Building, a Fellow of the Incorporated Society of Organ Builders, and an Honorary Member of the Royal School of Church Music.
