NINE prizes of £1500 each have been awarded to the winners of Parish Pixels, a photography competition organised by the insurance firm Ecclesiastical.

The competition, which opened last summer, invited representatives of Anglican churches in England, Wales, and Scotland to “capture the essence of their church” in a single image, accompanied by a one-sentence caption (News, 19 June 2019).

The winners include images of St Cuthbert’s, Edinburgh; St Stephen’s, Etton, in Peterborough; and St Teilo’s, Bishopston, in Swansea. See our gallery for all the winning images and captions.

They were chosen from more than 600 entries by a panel of judges this week. The public can now vote for a favourite image before Ecclesiastical and church representatives select an overall winner, who will receive a £5000 prize for his or her church.

Ecclesiastical’s church-operations director, Michael Angell, said: “The response to the competition was fantastic, and we received many incredible images showing the diverse range of people, places, and features that make Anglican churches so special.

“These nine regional winners really stood out to the judges, and we’re now urging the public to show their support for their local church to be crowned as national winner.”

Voting is open until 26 June, at ecclesiastical.com/latest-news/parish-pixels.
