FURTHER restoration work is being carried out on the remains of an ancient church in Colchester, which were excavated more than 40 years ago.
Urgent repairs to the foundations, thought to have been built at the end of the Roman occupation, c.320, have already been carried out by the Colchester Archaeological Trust at the request of the High Steward of Colchester, Sir Bob Russell.
Further restoration work was commissioned by the Council last month.
Sir Bob told local media: “This should be promoted as a major tourist attraction, along with the Roman chariot circus, which is the only one known to have existed in this country.”
