MOST sporting events have already fallen victim to the coronavirus, and the Church Times Cricket Cup, sadly, is no exception. Restrictions on movement and gatherings are likely to stay in place at least until June, by which time the group matches need to have been played.
We are not abandoning hope for cricket this year, however. The Walker Ground in Southgate, north London, scene of the Church Times Cup Final every year since 1951, remains booked for Thursday 10 September. The ground has three pitches, and so the prospect of some form of limited-over tournament opens up. We always tell cricketers to save the date. For once, more than just two teams might enjoy the surroundings and the hospitality.
We will make a proper plan when things become a little clearer.
