Ludlow retirement

THE Suffragan Bishop of Ludlow, the Rt Revd Alistair Magowan, is to retire at the end of April, aged 65. He has served in this post and as Archdeacon of Hereford since 2009, and has been Acting Bishop of Hereford during two vacancies, including the current one.

Bishop Magowan was ordained priest in 1982 and, after serving his title in Sheffield diocese, served in Durham and Guildford dioceses, before becoming Archdeacon of Dorset and a Canon and Prebendary of Salisbury Cathedral.

Over the past 11 years, he has promoted growth and discipleship; helped to establish the Borderlands Rural Chaplaincy; developed ecumenical work across the diocese; and supported intergenerational mission work.

The Bishop of Hereford Designate, the Rt Revd Richard Jackson, said that he would be missed for his “pastoral care, love, kindness and support for clergy and lay leaders”.

Bishop Magowan is married to Louise, an NSM of Church Stretton, also in Hereford diocese.
