GRAHAM HUNTER, Vicar of St John’s, Hoxton, has written Discipline and Desire: Embracing Charismatic liturgical worship (Grove, W233, £3.95 (£3.55); 978-1-78827-028-1), having partly in mind those who view the eucharist as “one of those slightly outdated traditions” imposed by canon law, and encouraging them, instead, to see the value of having a “trellis” for their “vine”. The book gives practical advice, explains terminology, including the different titles of the service used in the Church of England, and advocates “tradition” over “traditionalism”.
