More John Henry Newman book reviews

by
15 November 2019

ROD GARNER’s Bright Evening Star: A portrait of John Henry Newman (Liverpool Hope University, £8.99; 978-1-8987-491-9-6) is an Anglican author’s perspective in 124 pages plus notes and suggestions for further reading, and Professor Wheeler commends it.

More popular in style are Michael Collins’s Newman: A short biography, by a Roman Catholic priest who studied at University College, Dublin (Messenger Publications, £8.95 (£8.05); 978-1-78812-105-7), and, originally published in 1983, Newman at Littlemore by Bernard Bassett SJ (Gracewing, £7.99 (£7.20); 978-0-85244-942-4). This has been updated for the new edition.

None of these books has an index, but the latter two have black-and-white illustrations in the text.
