The Revd Jane Baxter writes:
I HAD a chance meeting with Canon Adrian Carey (Obituary, 27 October) a short while ago. He and my father were in the same bay on the admissions ward of Grantham and District Hospital. My father has been a keen churchgoer all his life and a church-choir member; so they found something to chat about.
When I visited my father, I also spent a little time talking to Canon Carey. At that time, he had, I think, just published his memoirs, and had a copy on his bedside table, somewhat to the bemusement of the nurse who asked him what he was reading — on realising that it was his own book. A charming man, and an encounter I will remember.
