Dean retires
THE Very Revd Professor Gordon McPhate, the Dean of Chester, since 2002, will retire on 30 September. Dean McPhate is Professor of Theology and Medicine at the University of Chester, and teaches science, religion, and bioethics. Before his present appointment, he had held posts in the dioceses of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane, London, and Southwark.
Archdeacon retires
THE Ven. Philip Down, Archdeacon of Ashford, in Canterbury diocese, since 2011, will retire on 15 October. Before his present appointment, he was Archdeacon of Maidstone, from 2002 to 2011. He had held posts in the diocese since 1995.
