THE Revd Angus Parker seeks evidence of the original version and authorship of the Jubilee Hymn, performed at Dr Kenneth Leech’s funeral, beginning “Ye faithful souls and heroes who fought for peace and right” and with the refrain “Uplift the people’s banner and let the ancient cry”. [At some earlier date the hymn apparently began “Dear patron saint of England, St George, our Lady’s Knight” — editor.] He can be contacted at Unitarian House, 2 Bradbury Street, Hyde, Cheshire SK14 1QP, or by phone on 0161 368 2119.
