Assistant Curate of Christ Church, Longland, Sidcup (1981-95); Hon. Canon of Karamoja since 1988; Assistant Bishop of Tanzania (1995-2000); aged 81.

HAZLEHURST. — On 27 August, the Revd David Hazlehurst: Curate-in-Charge of St James’s, Collyhurst (1966-67); Vicar of Blackrod (1967-79); St Margaret’s, Halliwell (1979-84); Rector of St Nicholas’s, Sutton (1984-94); aged 84.

PHILLIPS. — On 8 September, the Revd Edward Leigh Phillips: Assistant Chaplain of Dean Close School, Cheltenham (1935-37); Assistant Curate of Highfield (1937-38); Curate-in-Charge of Christ the King, Patcham (1939-41); Chaplain to the Forces (Emergency Commission) (1941-46); Rector of Ide Hill (1946-49); Vicar of Moulsecoomb (1949-52); Kingston with Iford (1952-75); Iford with Kingston and Rodmell (1975-78); Rural Dean of Lewes (1965-77); aged 104.

SCOTT. — On 1 September, the Revd James Alexander Gilchrist Scott: Domestic Chaplain to the Archbishop of York (1961-65); Missions to Seamen Chaplain in Santos, Brazil, and of All Saints’, Santos (1965-68); Vicar of Grassendale (1968-77); Thorp Arch with Walton (1977-89); Chaplain of HM Prison Thorp Arch, later Rudgate (1977-82); Rural Dean of Tadcaster (1978-86); Chaplain of HM Prison Askham Grange (1982-87); Vicar of Kirk Ella (1989-92); Team Rector (1992-97); aged 83.

SMITH. — On 5 September, the Revd John Roger Smith: Vicar of Christ Church, Burton (1966-75); St Mary’s, Doncaster (1976-92); Barnburgh with Melton on the Hill (1992-94); Barnburgh with Melton on the Hill and Aldwick-upon-Dearne (1994-2001); aged 80.

STUDDERT-KENNEDY. — On 5 September, the Revd Christopher John Studdert-Kennedy: Vicar of St Margaret’s, Putney (1956-66); Rector of Godstone (1966-91); Rural Dean (1976-88); Hon. Canon of Southwark Cathedral (1980-91); Canon Emeritus since 1991; aged 94.
