From Mrs Flora Alexander

Sir, - The Revd Alan Fraser ( Letters, 2 January) is wrong to criticise the selection of the Revd Libby Lane as a bishop on the grounds of her private education, which presumably was chosen for her by her parents. Also, as a state- comprehensive-educated Oxford graduate, I want to point out that he is making the common mistake of associating study at Oxford with private schooling. People gain places at Oxford not at a result of class privilege, but because they are clever and able to work effectively. We need clever bishops.
