My tips: Philip North and Dan Tyndall

03 July 2015

My tips

• Keep the church building open seven days a week. People matter more than candlesticks.

• Listen deeply to the world, and make sure you're answering the questions people are asking, not the ones you want to answer.

• Serve the poor and speak up for justice. Unless we live the Good News, we'll be dismissed as hypocrites.

Philip North

Bishop of Burnley

• I'm often warned off being too friendly, and told that people want to be anonymous when they come to church. At least when you've overstepped the mark and trespassed into "personal space" it is blindingly obvious. We know how many we have offended by being over-enthusiastic. We have no idea how many we offend by being over-cautious.

Dan Tyndall

Vicar, St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol
