THIS excellent little book is packed with goodies. It has a precise but brief introduction on aims for fund-raising, followed by chapter after chapter on - it must be a hundred - ways to get the whole church involved in raising funds.

People tend to enjoy fund-raising while having fun, and there are so many ideas that the ones that make you cringe you can quickly skip over, remembering they will probably have an audience with someone else.

What makes the book valuable, too, is that the author gives due attention to the safeguards required, including: complying with the Children Act, checking insurance, and considering health and safety. References are made to valuable additional sources of information, and help with the more exotic or challenging ideas.

Churches are exceptionally good at fund-raising, but, over the long haul, repeating events can attract decreasing interest and decreasing returns.

This book will encourage the fund-raisers both to refresh the regulars and to try something new. Occasional comments on levels of return, or profit to be made from an event, can be really helpful in choosing where to invest volunteers' precious time and skills.

So, it's time to have fun and raise money.
