Burying alleluia

27 February 2015

THIS is a custom I have never heard of before: as part of the preparation for Lent at St Nicholas's, Wade, Birchington, in Canterbury diocese, two members of the congregation buried two "Alleluia" posters in the Easter garden. The congregation sang a Celtic "Alleluia" as the words were covered up.

Canon James Rosenthal tells me that the posters will be dug up at the Easter vigil, as the word comes back into use in the Easter worship.
