‘Spiritual suicide of ordination’ — what rubbish!

From the Revd Tim Gunter

Sir, - I have been reading the Church Times since 1955, and this is only the second time that I have been moved to write to you. I was saddened by the tone of the Back Page Interview (16 January) with Maggie Ross, and particularly by the reference to "the spiritual suicide of ordination".

Having served as a parish priest for 41 happy years, I have to ask what on earth she thinks she means; and, when the Church needs enthusiastic young priests, why you should publish such negative and idiosyncratic rubbish.
