ALLEN. — On 9 September, the Very Revd John Edward Allen: Chaplain of the University of Bristol (1971-78); Priest-in-Charge of St Paul’s, Clifton (1971-78); St Andrew’s, Chippenham, with Tytherton Lucas (1978-82); Provost of Wakefield Cathedral (1982-96); aged 83.

DAGGETT. — On 31 August, the Revd Michael Wayne Daggett: Vicar of Holy Rood, Swinton (1990-2002); Chaplain of Eccles Sixth-Form College (1990-2002); aged 67.

EMERTON. — On 12 September, the Revd Dr John Adney Emerton: Assistant Lecturer in Theology at the University of Birmingham (1952-53); Lecturer in Hebrew at Durham University (1953-55); Lecturer in Divinity in the University of Cambridge (1955-62); Visiting Professor at Trinity College, Toronto (1960); Reader in Semitic Philology in the University of Oxford, and Fellow of St Peter’s College, Oxford (1962-68); Regius Professor of Hebrew at Cambridge (1968-95); Emeritus Professor since 1995; Fellow of St John’s College, Cambridge, since 1970; Hon. Canon of St George’s Cathedral, Jerusalem, since 1984; aged 87.

GRAINGER. — On 13 September, the Revd Dr Roger Beckett Grainger: Chaplain of Stanley Royd Hospital, Wakefield (1973-90); Hon. Assistant Curate of St John’s, Wakefield, since 1993; Diocesan Drama Adviser, since 1998; Professor Extraordinary of Potchefstroom, University of South Africa, since 2001; Hon. Chaplain of Wakefield Cathedral since 2002; aged 82.

LEAKEY. — On 18 August, the Revd Peter Wippell Leakey: Vicar of Copp (1979-85); Pennington (1985-2005); Area Dean of Leigh (1993-2000); Hon. Canon of Manchester Cathedral (2002-05); aged 76.

LEECH. — On 12 September, the Revd Dr Kenneth Leech: Tutor of St Augustine’s College, Canterbury (1971-74); Rector of Bethnal Green (1974-80); Field Officer of the Community and Race Relations Unit of the British Council of Churches (1980); Race Relations Officer of the General Synod’s Board for Social Responsibility (1981-87); Hon. Assistant Curate of St Clement and St Mark, Notting Hill (1982-85); St Clement and St Mark, Notting Dale, and St James’s, Norland (1985-88); Director of the Runnymede Trust (1987-90); Hon.
