FRAN CLEMMOW tells the story of her grandfather, a medical missionary in China, his wife, and his sister Jane, who married a South African doctor. The basis of Days of Sorrow, Times of Joy is a collection of family letters, written between 1859 and 1937 (Matador, £13.99 (£12.59); 978-1-78088-255-0).

Neil Anderson is the founder of Freedom in Christ Ministries. In his memoir, Rough Road to Freedom, he tells the story of how he moved from a humble farming background through a career in engineering to being a church pastor and beyond (Monarch, £9.99 (£9); 978-0-85721-294-8).
