A former electrical engineer, David Mekins, is making bowls from window glass, featuring a St Cuthbert's pectoral cross, to support Durham Cathedral's £10-million Open Treasure appeal. More than 100 people have ordered one of the glass bowls, each of which takes 40 hours to make. Mr Mekins produces the bowls in the garage of his home in Sedgefield.
